Smoking Cessation
Thinking about giving up the habit? It’s about time. We can help.
You are up to six times more likely to give up smoking with the help of counselling, and we have a brilliant one to one weekly programme that will go a long way towards helping you.
If you pay for NHS prescription, it will cost you one item fee (currently £9.65) to obtain five weeks worth of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) supplies or roughly £120 worth! if your are exempt then you pay nothing.
What happens at the first stop smoking session?
At your first meeting with our senior pharmacist, you’ll discuss about why you smoke and why you want to quit, as well as any attempts you’ve made to quit in the past. The pharmacist will explain you all the benefits of quit smoking. You’ll also be able to decide on a quit date.
Stop smoking aids
At your first session, you’ll also discuss NHS-endorsed stop smoking treatments available to help you. These are nicotine replacement products, including patches, gum, lozenges, inhalators and mouth and nasal sprays.
As a general rule, you’ll have weekly face-to-face or phone contact with your adviser for the first 4 weeks after you quit smoking, then less frequently for a further 8 weeks.
At each meeting, you’ll receive a supply of (or prescription for) a stop smoking treatment if you’re using it, and have your carbon monoxide level measured.
Stop smoking advisers can also help you identify difficult situations when there may be a strong temptation to relapse and start smoking.
There are lots of reasons why quitting smoking is beneficial for both your health and overall wellbeing. It can be a challenging journey but with determination and support, it is possible to quit and enjoy a healthier, smoke free life.
